Treatment and Care Priorities at a Glance:


Diagnosis and treatment of all diseases of the oesophagus, stomach, intestines, liver and pancreas.

Oncology: Outpatient and day clinic

Focuses on the treatment of patients with tumours, in particular of the stomach, colon, oesophagus, pancreas, and liver; both inpatient and in the oncology outpatient clinic and day hospital.

  • Diagnosis, advice and treatment (chemotherapy) of tumours of the digestive tract (oesophagus, stomach, colon, liver, pancreas, etc.) upon referral by specialists in gastroenterology or haematology/oncology
  • Provision of all chemotherapy for gastrointestinal tumours 
  • Follow-up after the treatment 
  • A close collaboration with the Surgery and Radiology Departments, as well as Radiotherapy, through the Colon Cancer Centre and regular tumour conferences. If necessary, psychologists, social workers, pain therapists and palliative care can also be called in.

Diabetes Mellitus: Day Clinic

  • Training and titration of patients with diabetes mellitus in the inpatient area and in the diabetes day clinic, treatment of diabetes secondary diseases by diabetologists and specialised diabetes consultants.
  • Care of patients with diabetes during pregnancy. 
  • Certified treatment facility of the German Diabetes Society for patients with type 2 diabetes.

  • Conducting of all endoscopic examinations of the digestive tract:
  • - Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy 
    - Colonoscopy
    - Rectoscopy
    - Billiary track examinations (ERCP, PTC)
    - Capsule endoscopy of small intestine
    - Double-balloon endoscopy of small intestine
    - Endoscopic ultrasonography (oesophagus, stomach, biliary tract, pancreas, rectum)
    - Mini-laparoscopy 
  • Interventional endoscopy:
    - Haemostasis
    - Polyp removal
    - Mucosal resection
    - Haemorrhoid treatment
    - Removal of stones in the biliary tract
    - Stenting (oesophagus, stomach, intestine, biliary tract, pancreas)
    - Bouginage/dilation of bottlenecks in the biliary tract/pancreas
    - Radio-frequency ablation of biliary tract tumours
    - Endosonographic punctures and cyst drainage
    - Laser therapy
    - Argon plasma coagulation 
  • Gastroenterological function tests
    - H2 breath test
    - 13C urea breath test
    - Manometry
    - 24-hour pH metry 
  • 24-hour on-call service for gastrointestinal emergencies by the department's doctors

Functional Area of Ultrasound

  • Ultrasound of the abdominal organs 
  • Ultrasound of the thyroid gland 
  • Contrast medium ultrasound (especially liver) 
  • Ultrasound guided punctures (diagnostic/therapeutic) 
  • Local tumour therapy (micro-wave ablation, ethanol injection, radio frequency ablation)

Interdisciplinary tumour conference

To decide on the best therapy, experts from the various departments, who are familiar with the treatment of tumors , for weekly case discussion . The tumor conference will be held on Thursdays at 16.00 clock.
