Registration for the Birth

[Translate to Englisch:] A registration for a birth is not absolutely necessary in our clinic. However, a preliminary registration helps us with the formalities. The registration can be made during the midwife consultancy sessions. The maternal health passport, the insurance card and available findings of existing diseases are to be presented.

In collaboration with the German Red Cross and the blood bank in Mannheim, there is the option to donate umbilical cord blood. From this, stem cells of the child are taken which may be transplanted in people with a disease of the haematopoietic system and may thus save a life. You will receive details and the necessary forms when registering for the birth.

Suitcase for the clinic - what do I need for the birth?

  • Maternal health passport
  • Toiletries
  • Bathrobe
  • Indoor shoes/slippers
  • All the necessary medication which is taken regularly
  • Health insurance card
  • Please do not bring any valuables and or large amounts of money. Please leave expensive jewellery at home.

Information on Accommodation and Care

We do, of course, offer the opportunity of rooming-in in each patient room which means you have your baby in the room. Upon request, you and your partner can book a family room for an extra flat-rate charge. Babies who sleep in the nursery are supervised around-the-clock by a paediatric nurse.

A new life stage begins with the birth. We accompany you in the first few days as intensively as possible. We see mother and child as a unit. Thus, the care includes breastfeeding and nutrition counselling, wound care and postnatal checks. In addition, there are more course offerings. Current information is available at the unit.

Information on Outpatient Birth

If you have opted for an outpatient birth, you can leave the clinic six hours after the birth depending on the time of day. However, you should clarify before the birth that a midwife carries out the postpartum care and a paediatrician carries out the initial assessment and the neonatal screening. Your gynaecologist should be also informed, so that even at home, optimum care is guaranteed.
